| Mr. Donald E. Gaines, 69, of 2212 Sunny Lane, died on January 13, 2001 Born August 4, 1931 in Quincy, Mr. Gaines was the son of William D. and Laura E. Perryman Gaines. He married Pat Schaffer on December 27, 1971 in Canton, MO. She survives. Mr. Gaines was a graduate of Shelbina High School and the University of Missouri at Columbia. He was a member of Madison Park Christian Church, National Association of Retired Federal Employees, American Postal Workers Union where he served for many years as the Legislative Director/Editor of the Illinois Postal Worker, and served as a local officer for the Quincy Area Local. Mr. Gaines served in the U. S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. Mr. Gaines was employed for the U. S. Postal Service for 25 years, retiring in 1999. Also surviving are four daughters, Cindy Walter and her husband Eldon of Kansas City, MO., Deborah Weisheit and her husband John of Flower Mound, TX., and Barbara O'Dear and her husband Rob and Nancy Dreyer and her husband Joe both of Quincy; a son, John Gaines and his wife Carrie of Green Castle, MO.; 11 grandchildren; two sisters, Doris Hughes and her husband J. W. of Jacksonville, IL. and Barbara Arkwright and her husband Mike of Waukee, IA.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be held at in Madison Park Christian Church by Rev. Keith Ehresman and Rev. Bruce Willard. Burial with military rites by Quincy American Legion Post #37 will be in Quincy Memorial Park. Visitation will be held in the evening from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. in Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home and until the time of services at the church. Memorials may be made to Gateway Ministies of Madison Park Christian Church or the Blessing Foundation for Hospice. |
