HAROLD ROSSER GASKILL
 

Harold Rosser Gaskill, 83 years of age, died early Tuesday morning, 4/27/04.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Jean Trower Gaskill. They celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary this past October.

Harold and Jean were married on October 2, 1943 and made their home in Quincy, Ill. They had five children, Carol A. Scott and her husband John, of East Peoria, Ill., Harold Richard Gaskill, who died shortly after birth and is buried in Greenmount Cemetery in Quincy, R. Joe Gaskill and his wife Pam, of St. Augustine, Ill., Mary E. King and her husband John, of New Freedom, Pa., and David K. Gaskill and his wife Debby, of East Peoria, Ill.

Born in Hannibal, Village of Oakwood, MO. December 24, 1920, Harold was the third child of the late Mary Mehethalem Hart Gaskill and Ronnie Morris Gaskill. His brothers, Morris Hart Gaskill, Thomas Emory Gaskill, Glen Edward Gaskill, a sister, Imogene Gaskill, and a foster sister, Myrtle Stanley, preceded him in death. His brother Ronnie Morris Gaskill Jr. of Sun City West, AZ, and his sister Erma Dean Saxbery of Taylor, MO, survives him. Also surviving are his Grandchildren, David J. Scott, Rebekah L. Patten, Stephen M. Scott, MD, Amy J. Daniels, Andrea B. Moore, John B. King IV, Sarah C. King, Christopher D. Gaskill, Jonathan T. Gaskill. One grandchild John Franklin Scott Jr. preceded him. Knowing his Great-grandchildren, Jacob, Rachel, Daniel & Caleb Scott, Madeleine, Emily, & Josephine Patten, Audrey Scott, Spencer & Wesley Daniels, and Dylan Moore was one of the joys of his life. He is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews.

Although employed by several companies in Quincy, and a veteran of WWII, Harold is most remembered for his custom woodworking skills. His handiwork can be seen in the lobby and staircase of the Ramada Inn and in the windows of many of the area churches that have been restored to their original design. Local builders often asked him to make custom cabinetry and furniture for their clients.

Harold was a member of the Gideons International and Calvary Baptist Church. He became a member of The Mayflower Society, 30 July 2002.

Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 10:30 in the Zender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home by the Rev. L. D. Grant. Burial with Military Honors by Quincy American Legion Post #37 will be in Greenmount Cemetery.

Visitation will be Saturday morning from 9:00 until the time of services at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Harold R. Gaskill Memorial Fund.
