Mrs. Edith Alberta Giddins, 86, who made her home with her daughter, Edith Hamilton in Yellow Springs, Ohio, formerly of Canton, Missouri, died at 1:25 p.m. Thursday (January 15, 2004) in the Greene Oaks Nursing Home in Xenia, Ohio, where she had been a resident since December 23, 2003.

Born January 11, 1918 in Lewistown, Missouri, Edith was the daughter of Albert and Bernice Majors Washington. She married Andrew J. Pleasant in 1932 in Canton, Missouri. She married Jackson Giddins on November 29, 1957 in San Diego, California. He died December 24, 1998.

Mrs. Giddins attended Green Chapel Baptist Church in LaGrange, Missouri.

Edith was employed as a Registered Nurse for many years until her retirement.

Survivors include a daughter, Edith Maxine Hamilton of Yellow Springs, OH.; nine grandchildren, William F. Morrison III and his wife Vivian, Antonio Pleasant, Michael Pleasant, Steve Pleasant, Sandra Jones, Michelle Pleasant, Kim Gildon and her husband Fred Pounce, Zella A. Gildon and Jimmie Gildon; eight great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; a brother, Eugene Washington of Davenport, IA.; a sister, Genevive Douglas of Saginaw, MI.; a dear friend, Grace Pleasant; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mrs. Giddins was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; a daughter, Doris V. Gildon; a son, Samuel J. Pleasant; and a sister, Lucille Snively.

Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 1:00 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home by Rev. John Mims. Private family burial will be in the Keokuk National Cemetery, Keokuk, Iowa.

Visitation will be Friday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 and Saturday until the time of services at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Green Chapel Baptist Church in LaGrange.
