| Mrs. Catherine Giesing, 86, of St. Vincents Home, formerly of 531 Holford Dr., died at 5:20 p.m. Sunday (May 13,
2001) in Blessing Hospital. Born March 18, 1915 in Minneapolis, MN., Catherine was the daughter of Emil and Gertrude Hennig Kairies. She married Walter J. Giesing on May 3, 1948 in Minneapolis, MN. He died in January 11, 1988. Mrs. Giesing was a member of St. Peters Catholic Church. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, reading and politics. She dearly loved her cat, Max. In 1968, Catherine was a founding member with her husband and son in the Walter Louis Chemical Company located at 5th & Ohio in Quincy. Along with her secretarial and bookkeeping duties with the company, she was a devoted caregiver to her mentally and physically disabled son, Johnny. Surviving are two sons, Walter L. Giesing and his wife Diane of Quincy, and John P. Giesing of Jacksonville, IL.; three grandchildren, Frank J. Murphy and Michael M. Murphy both of Chicago, and Gina D. Murphy of Quincy; and a sister, Lucille Kairies of Edina, MN.; and several nieces and nephews. Catherine was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a brother, Walter Kairies; and a sister, Gertrude Roth. Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at 9:30 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home and at 10:00 a.m. in the St. Peters Catholic Church by the Rev. Roy Bauer. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday morning until the time of services at the funeral home.
