BRUCE GRANT
Dr. Bruce Grant, 87, of Quincy, died at 11:10 a.m. Saturday (April 21, 2001) in Blessing Hospital.

Born March 12, 1914 in Buchanan, MI. Dr. Grant was the son of Daniel and Alice Carpenter Grant. He married Dorothy Grace Johnson of Hull, IL. on June 4, 1938. She survives.

Dr. Grant grew up in Princeton, IL. and graduated from Princeton High School. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Illinois, a Master of Science Degree from the University of Minnesota and a Doctorate from the University of Colorado. Dr. Grant served in the U. S. Army during WW II. He was of the protestant faith.

Dr. Grant loved all sports, playing and coaching basketball and baseball. He played baseball with the 3-I League and pitched one year with the Chicago White Sox. He was an avid golfer and a die-hard Cubs fan.

Dr. Grant's business experience included six years at Marshall Field and Company in Chicago as collection manager and assistant to the Secretary of the firm. He later coached at Kentucky Military Institute and Centralia Junior College. He served as the Athletic Director at Blackburn College, taught at Park Ridge, IL., and was a counselor in Lancaster, CA. During the last 18 years of his teaching career, Dr. Grant was a Professor and Counseling Psychologist at California State University at Long Beach. He remained interested in working with young people throughout his life.

Dr. Grant authored five text books on Guidance Counseling and contributed to several others.

Also surviving is a brother in law and sister in law, George and Bernice Johnson of Hull; a niece, Bonnie Brueggeman and her husband Doug of Hull; and a nephew, David Johnson and his wife Judy of Payson.

Dr. Grant was preceded in death by his parents; and an infant brother, Wallace.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at 11:00 in Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home by the Rev. Dorothy Browning. Burial will be in the Kinderhook Cemetery.

Visitation will be Wednesday morning from 10:00 until the time of services at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.
