| Martin L. Gravitt, 82, of 1519 Manor Hill, formerly of 2622 West Valley View, died at 1:25 A.M. Friday (May 25,
2001) in Blessing Hospital. Born September 22, 1918 in Moberly, MO., Martin was the son of Orby and Mary Summers Gravitt. He married Dora A. Gordy on January 21, 1939. She died January 19, 1972. Mr. Gravitt served his country in the U. S. Army during WWII seeing action in Central Europe, the Rhineland and the Battle of the Bulge, receiving the Purple Heart. He was a member of the United Auto Workers Union Local #201 and he cherished the time he spent with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Martin was employed at the Electric Wheel, a division of Firestone Tire and Rubber for over 30 years. He retired in 1974. Surviving are two daughters, Shelia "Jo" Schaffer and her husband Gerald, and Marsha Hamilton and her husband John, both of Quincy; four sons, Marvin Gravitt and Kathy of Phoenix, AZ., Albert "Red" Gravitt and his wife Lisa of Quincy, George "Butch" Gravitt and his wife Nancy of Clarksville, TN., and Leroy Pollock of Quincy; 22 grandchildren, Rudy Gravitt, Tyler Gravitt, Chris Gravitt, Tammara Gravitt, Angela Randall, Mark Pollock, Rebeca Pollock, Timothy Pollock, Java Pollock, Cobi Pollock, Amanda Pollock, Mary Gravitt, Michelle Gravitt, Christy Gravitt, Justin Gravitt, Michael Cramsey, Gregory Cramsey, Amy Cramsey, Michael Gravitt, Pam Hess, Terri Arnsman, Windi Schaffer Damon; 29 great grandchildren, including Christopher, Cassie, Mark, Chris, Shaun, Delaney Rose, Jeffrey, Cassandra, Oliva, Joshua, Jeremey, Jaden, Caleb, Kristen, Micala, Zackery, Emily, Mackenzy, Bradley, Chloe, Taylor, Danyel; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Gravitt was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a son in infancy, Martin Gravitt Jr.; two grandchildren, Gerald Bradley Schaffer and Jeffrey Lee Pollock; four brothers, Dorsel, Marty James, Loren and Uliss Gravitt; and three sister, Mattie Heath, Nina Randsall Agae and Ailene Gravitt. Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning at 11:00 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home by the Rev. George Tomko. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday evening from 4:00 until 7:00 and Tuesday morning until the time of services at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Blessing Dialysis Unit. |
