Mr. James E. Griffin, 73, of 3633 Briarwood, formerly of Alexandria, Missouri, died at 2:55 p.m. Monday (November 3, 2003) in Blessing Hospital. Born October 7, 1930 in Quincy, Jim was the son of Everett and Julia Ann Jarrett Griffin. He married Verna Mitchell in 1965 in Carthage, Illinois. She died in 1991. He married Lola Gaus Rohs on July 17, 1993 in Quincy. She survives. Jim was a member of First Southern Baptist Church. He was a 1949 graduate of Quincy Senior High School and enjoyed hunting, playing cards, and repairing guns. He was an avid boat racer winning the World Championship in 1958. Jim served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. He was employed at Midwest Carbide in Keokuk, Iowa for 18 years retiring in 1989. He later worked part time for Hammond Guns in West Quincy. Surviving is his wife, Lola Griffin of Quincy; two sons, James Allen Griffin of Peoria, and Clyde "Butch" Mitchell and his wife Paulette of Keokuk, IA.; two daughters, Jane Schuette of Las Vegas, NV., and Dana McClellan and her husband Ray of Statesville, NC.; one step daughter Jana East and her husband Gary of Oldsmar, FL.; one step son, Eddie Maples and his wife Patty of Quincy; fifteen grandchildren, Clegguart Mitchell, Amanda Rose Simmons, Megan McClellan, Nicole Schuette, Matthew Schuette, Glen Maples, Rajah Wallace, Kristin Howard, Jason Howard, Kimberly Bowen, Andy Wemhoener, Ashley Zanger, Josh Simmons, Jeremy Simmons and Rachel Simmons; ten great grandchildren, Megan Bowen, Taylor Bowen, Jordan Howard, Jacob Howard, Tori Maples, Kendra Maples, Nathan James Mitchell, Jordan Mitchell, Hannah Rose Mitchell and Madison Schuette; and many cousins. Mr. Griffin was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 1:30 at the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home by Rev. Tom Rains and Pastor Clegguart Mitchell. Burial with military honors by the Keokuk American Legion Post #41 and the Keokuk V.F.W. Post #3508 will be in Hickory Grove Cemetery in Keokuk, Iowa. Visitation will be Thursday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 and Friday morning until the time of services at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the First Southern Baptist Church or to the
