Mrs. Pansy (Pat) Pauline Vincent Hardin, 91, of the Good Samaritan Home, formerly of 2040 Payson Avenue, died at 1:35 p.m. Sunday (June 1, 2003) in Blessing Hospital.

Born September 29, 1911 in Rankin, Oklahoma, Pansy was the oldest daughter of Arthur Cicero and Marguerite Johanna Petersen Vincent. She graduated from Rankin High School in 1928 and attended business college in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

She married Walter P. (Jim) Hardin on December 16, 1930 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. They moved to Chicago, Illinois in 1936 where they lived until moving to a farm east of Liberty, Illinois in 1947 where they lived until Mr. Hardin’s death in 1957.

Pansy moved to Quincy, Illinois in 1958 and worked as a dental assistant for the Adams County Health Department and later retired from the Illinois Veteran’s Home where she worked as a nursing assistant. After retirement, she volunteered for the American Red Cross for several years.

Mrs. Hardin, along with her husband, was a licensed amateur radio operator since 1941. She had the call letters of W9TFL and made radio contacts with people all over the world and at one time taught classes to prospective amateur radio operators. She was also an active member in “People to People” for many years.

She was a long time member of The First Christian Church of Quincy, where she was a member of the Carley Class and the Gipe-Cantrell Circle. She was active in the church until health problems caused her to move from her home to Good Samaritan Home.

Pansy is survived by a daughter, MarilynTaylor of Quincy, Illinois; two step-daughters, June George of Ft. Worth, Texas and Lorene Meadows of Crowley, Texas; two grandchildren, Toni Taylor of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Scott Taylor and his special friend, Angie Arnold of Wentzville, Missouri; two sisters, Cora Belle Tebu of Greensburg, Kansas and Marguerite King and her husband, Dr. F.J. King of Harrison, Tennessee; three nephews and two nieces, Donald Reed of Dallas; Texas, Nelson Tebu of Palm Springs, California; Forrest King of Ooltewah, Tennessee; Karen Bradshaw of Wichita, Kansas and Denise King of Happy, Texas; and numerous great nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Raymond Lloyd Hardin; a sister, Agnes Santner; and a great nephew, Rigel Barber.

Funeral services will be held Friday morning at 10:00 in the Zehender, Robinson, Stormer Cookson Funeral Home by the Rev. Joby Brown. Burial will be in Mound Prairie Cemetery near Beverly, Illinois.

Visitation will be Thursday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 and Friday morning until the time of services in the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to First Christian Church, Quincy Humane Society or Good Samaritan Home.
