| Mr. Walter Ralph Hermsmeier, 84, of 830 South 16th, died at 9:05 p.m. Tuesday (June 11, 2002) in Blessing Hospital. Born July 26, 1917, in Burlington, IA., Walt was the son of Walter R. and Selma Gabel Hermsmeier. He married Dorothy M. Baldwin on November 18, 1945 in Quincy. She preceded him in death on February 1, 2001. Walt was a member of Salem Evangelical United Church of Christ where he was a member of the Men's Brotherhood, a former usher and financial secretary. He was also a Past Master of the Quincy Masonic Lodge No. 296, Past Senior Counselor of the United Commercial Travelers, Past President of the South Side Commercial Club and a member of the American Business Club. Mr.Hermsmeier served his country in the U. S. Army Air Corps during WW II stationed in the South West Pacific. Mr. Hermsmeier managed the Kiefer Grocery Store in Quincy and was a salesman at Hannibal Outdoor Advertising Company. He later worked at Freiburg Insurance Agency for 31 years until his retirement in 1984. Walt was an accomplished artist who took oil painting courses through John Wood Community College and commercial sign painting through an International Correspondence School. He loved to go fishing with family and friends and he always planted a large vegetable garden each year. Surviving is a daughter, Linda Danhaus and her husband Paul of Wausau, WI.; two sons, Robert Hermsmeier and his wife Glenda of Sacramento, CA. and Brad Hermsmeier and his wife Jeanne Windsor of Ocala, FL; seven grandchildren, Jennifer Hermsmeier and Joshua Hermsmeier both of Sacramento, CA., Daniel Hermsmeier and his wife Cheryl of Winnemucca, NV., Jaclyn Hauser and her husband Daniel of Quincy, Tyler Danhaus of Wausau, WI. and Andrea Windsor and Annie Windsor both of Ocala, FL.; two great-grandchildren, Samantha Hermsmeier of Winnemucca, NV. and Devyn Hauser of Quincy; a sister, Mildred Dwyer and her husband Charles of Sun City, AZ; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Hermsmeier was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; two brothers, Harold and Archie Hermsmeier; and a sister, Vera Happel. Funeral services will be held Monday morning at 10:30 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home by the Rev. Stephen Schuette. Burial with Military Honors by Quincy American Legion Post #37 will be in Quincy Memorial Park. Visitation will be held Sunday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 and Monday morning until the time of services at the funeral home. Quincy Lodge No. 296 will conduct Masonic services Sunday evening at 7:00 in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Salem Evangelical United Church of Christ or to the charity of the donor's choice. |
