| Mrs. Betty L. Herzog, 65, of 1639 Payson Ave., died at 5:05 p.m. Friday (July 27, 2001) in Blessing Hospital. Born May 6, 1936 in Quincy, Betty was the daughter of Walter R. and Lena R. Kattelman Potts. She married Leo E. Herzog on September 5, 1958 in Salem Church. He survives. Betty was a 1954 graduate of Quincy High School and attended Quincy College, Elmhurst College and John Wood Community College. She was baptized and confirmed in Salem Evangelical United Church of Christ where she sang with the youth and adult choirs and was a member of the Afternoon Women's Guild and Kings and Queens Club. Betty also cooked for the Saturday Meals Program at the church. Betty was employed at Motorola until 1972. She loved children, especially babies, and from 1973 until 1985 she cared for children at the Kiddie Korner Day Care Center. She later provided childcare in private homes for many years. Betty's passion was for her grandchildren, and she cherished the time she spent with them. Also surviving is a son, David Herzog and his wife Dawn of Quincy; a daughter, Debra Herzog of Barry, IL.; five grandchildren, Joshua Herzog, Ryan Herzog, Makayla Herzog, Taylor Marie Morrison and Joseph Leo Morrison; three brothers, Walter J. Potts and his wife Debra and John G. Potts and his wife Ardath both of Quincy and Donald L. Potts and his wife Rita of Katy, TX.; two sisters, Berniece Rabe of Quincy and Barbara Gustafson and her husband Kerry of Apex, N. C.; and several nieces and nephews. Betty was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Dena Morrison; a brother in law, Carl Rabe; a sister in law, Betty Potts; and a niece, Lori Potts. Graveside services will be held Monday morning at 11:00 in Greenmount Cemetery by the Rev. Stephen Schuette. Friends are invited to the services. Visitation will be Sunday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Betty Herzog Memorial Fund. |
