GERALD "JERRY" HESS
 

Mr. Gerald "Jerry" Hess, 59, of Maywood, Missouri, died at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday (September 24, 2003) in his home.

Born September 26, 1943 in Quincy, Jerry was the son of James Forrest and Ethel Barlow Hess. He married Carol L. Ward on October 15, 1960 in Palmyra, Missouri. She survives.

Mr. Hess was a member of Shepherds Chapel in Gravette, Arkansas, He enjoyed woodworking and gardening and was an avid fisherman and hunter, especially turkey hunting. Jerry took great pride in his home, spending many hours working in his garden and yard.

Jerry was a graduate of Quincy High School and was employed as a foreman in the Scale Department for Quincy Soybean from 1964 until his retirement in 1995.

Survivors include his wife, Carol; two sons, Jerry Hess and his wife Angie of Columbia, MO. and Jeffrey Hess of Maywood, MO.; two daughters, Robin Morthland and her husband Todd of Morrison, IL. and Shelly Hess of Ewing, MO.; seven grandchildren, Jessica Hess, Caleb Hess and Mackenzie Hess all of Columbia, MO., Conner Morthland of Morrison, IL., and Kendra Hess, Jordan Schieferdecker and Haley Schieferdecker all of Ewing, MO.; one great grandson, Ethan Williams of Columbia, MO.; five brothers, Richard Tukesbury of Chicago, James Hess and his wife Joan, Earl Hess, and Russell Hess and his wife Virginia all of Quincy, and Gene Hess of Boise, ID; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Hess was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Barbara Jean Hess; a brother, Alan Hess; and a sister, Barbara Dyer.

Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 1:00 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home by Russell Hess. Burial will be in the Maywood Cemetery in Maywood, Missouri.

Visitation will be held Friday evening from 4:00 until 8:00 and Saturday until the time of services in the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Blessing Foundation for Hospice.
