Mrs. Lorene G. Hessing, 92, of Coal Valley, formerly of Quincy, died at
12:38 p.m. Thursday (February 12, 2004) in Oak Glen Nursing Home in
Coal Valley.
Born July 23, 1911 in Plattsmouth, Nebraska, Lorene was the daughter of
Robert and Grace Den Windham Jr. She was married to George Hessing. He
died March 15, 1982.
Lorene was trained in sculpturing at Marycrest College in Davenport, Iowa.
She made several ice sculptures for movie studios in Hollywood in the 1970's.
She also made carvings for statue molds for Miller Manufacturing Co. While
living in Quincy, she was a member of the Elks Lodge.
Lorene and her husband purchased the Ringwald's Bakery at 8th and Jefferson
and renamed the business to Tasty Bakery which they ran until moving to
Florida.
Surviving are two daughters, Jacqueline "Jackie" Davis of Quincy
and Jeanne During and her husband Donald of Port St. Lucie, FL.; a son,
Kent Hessing and his wife Irma of Garden Grove, CA.; thirteen grandchildren;
and several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Hessing was preceded in death by her parents; and two sisters, Jeanette
Windham and Jennie Windham.
Cremation rites were accorded to Mrs. Hessing. Private family services
will be held at a later date.
Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
