Mrs. Hattie Mae Hibbard, 70, of 1426 State, died at 8:00 p.m. Sunday (September 7, 2003) in the home of her son and daughter-in-law in Quincy.

Born December 27, 1932 in Quincy, Hattie was the daughter of Frank and Hattie Pfaffe Slater. She was first married Leroy Coyle. She later married C. Donald Hibbard on December 8, 1989 in Quincy. He died December 12, 1989.

She was an avid bowler. She enjoyed being with people and knew how to have a good time. She was extremely close to her brothers and sisters having come from a family of 16 children with her mother dying giving birth to the youngest child.

Hattie worked at various places including, Quincy Speaker, Motorola, Apex, Quincy Paperbox, and Carson Pirie Scott. She was then employed in the coffee shop as a cook at the Illinois Veterans Home for 22 years. She will long be remembered for her "daily specials," her bread pudding and her hard work and dedication, as well as the many friends she made over the years. She worked until May of this year when she was first diagnosed with cancer.

She is loved and survived by one son, Paul Coyle and his wife Sandy of Quincy; four grandchildren, Scott Coyle and his wife Missy of Loraine, Shaun Coyle and his wife Nicole of Fort Drum, N.Y., Denise Hinch of Quincy, and Stephanie Beaston and her husband Chris of Tioga, IL.; nine great grandchildren, Jarod and Shea Coyle of Loraine, Angelica Davies of Fort Drum, N.Y., Aaron, Kristin, and Devin Beaston all of Tioga, and Jay Albert, Danielle Neuman, and Nicolas Dopheide all of Quincy; four brothers, Harold Slater and his wife Verlee of Quincy, Frank Slater of Quincy, Herman "Herky" Slater and his wife Kathy of Rayham, MA., and Stanley Slater and his wife Susan of Granby, MO.; six sisters, Dorothy Morley and her husband Joe, Dolores "Sis" Warren, Mildred Hutson, and Emma Scheufele all of Quincy, Elsie Wassell and her husband Dwan of Pittsfield, and Linda Ruch and her husband Floyd of St. Joseph, MO.; and a brother in law, Jim Winking of Quincy.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three brothers, Ralph, Cledith "Tony", and Donald Slater, and two sisters, Barbara Clifford, and Gertrude Winking.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home by Mr. Len Williamson. Burial will be in Quincy Memorial Park.

Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 and Wednesday until the time of services at the funeral home.
