Mr. Floyd Wesley "Wes" Higgins, 80, of the Illinois Veterans Home, formerly of Payson, died Sunday (November 30, 2003) in Blessing Hospital. Born September 7, 1923 in Kinderhook, Illinois. Wes was the son of Floyd and Edna Ward Higgins. Wes was a member of the Kinderhook Baptist Church and the Hull Masonic Lodge No. 910. He was a graduate of Kinderhook High School and while living at the Illinois Veterans Home, he wrote a monthly column for "The Bugle" and co-authored two books. Mr. Higgins served his country in the U. S. Army in WW II and the Korean Conflict. Wes was employed at E. M. Chatten Implement Company and then for Howell Decorating for 23 years, retiring in 1990. Survivors include a daughter, Lynn Ridenour of Denver, CO.; two sons, David Higgins and his wife Linda of Eau Claire, WI. and Dean Higgins and his wife Lucy of Baldwin, IL.; three grandchildren, Jason Higgins of Eau Claire, WI., Robin Maier and her husband John of Baldwin, IL. and Brandy Ridenour of Denver, CO.; two step grandchildren, Larry D. Farley of Red Bud, IL. and Paula Phelps and her husband David of Sparta, IL.; four great grandchildren; a sister, Hyla Jean Howell and her husband Richard of Payson; and two nieces, Karrie Butterfield and her husband Todd of Payson and Debbie Williams and her husband John of Libertyville, IL. Mr. Higgins was preceded in death by his parents; and an infant sister, Caroline Higgins. Graveside services will be held Tuesday morning at 10:15 in the Kinderhook Cemetery. Hull Masonic Lodge No. 910 will conduct services at 9:15 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home in Quincy. Payson V.F.W. Post 2061 will conduct Military Services at the graveside service. Visitation will be Tuesday morning from 9:00 until 9:15 in the funeral home in Quincy. Memorials may be made to the Payson V. F. W. Post 2061. |
