Mr. John Henry Hiland, 23, of 361 East Angle, Plainville, died at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday (March 4, 2003) in the emergency room of Blessing Hospital. Born August 2, 1979 in Grand Forks, North Dakota, John was the son of Blake and Vicki Laws Hiland. John was a member of the House of Prayer in Kinderhook. He was a graduate of Seymour High School in Payson where he was a member of the Letterman's Club for being a 4 year letterman in Baseball and a Basketball letterman. He also received the Golden Hammer Award for Woodworking while in school. John was an avid fisherman and enjoyed golf and Nascar racing. He was looking forward to attending Danville Community College this coming fall to receive his Associate Degree in Turf and Grass Management. John had an amazing group of very close friends whom he loved and who loved him. He loved life and lived it well. He was outgoing, but was still a caring and thoughtful young man. He loved his family and they will forever keep him in their hearts. He was a true blessing in his parents and his brothers lives. John was employed by the Quincy Park District at Westview Golf Course and was currently employed at the Quincy Country Club on the Ground Maintenance Crew. Surviving are his parents; Blake and Vicki Hiland of Plainville; a brother, Eric Hiland of Plainville; a nephew; Levi Hiland of New Salem, IL.; his paternal grandparents, Rev. Robert and Pat Cook of Plainville; his paternal grandfather, Eddie Hiland of Augusta; maternal grandparents, Kenny and Sherry Laws of Payson; a paternal great grandmother, Naomi Davis of Clayton; a maternal great grandmother, Mary Hull of Payson; and several Aunts, Uncles and cousins. John was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal great grandparents; step great grandparents; and several Aunts and Uncles. Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 11:00 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home in Quincy by the Rev. Robert Cook and Rev. Wayne Lock. Burial will be in Akers Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday evening from 5:00 to 8:00 and Saturday until the time of services at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the John H. Hiland Memorial Fund. |
