Elizabeth C. "Liz" Hoener, 95, of Blessing Long Term Care, formerly of #6 Kentucky Rd., died at 12:35 p.m. Monday (September 15, 2003) in Blessing Long Term Care. Born June 20, 1908 in Hillsboro, Texas, she was the first born of seven children to Addison Carroll and Elizabeth Cecilia Moore Weatherred. Elizabeth married Harold J. "Skip" Hoener on June 20, 1947 in Olathe, KS. He died July 20, 1991. Elizabeth was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church and graduated from Waco Texas High School and Powers College in New York City. Elizabeth owned and operated the Dr. Pepper Bottling Company in Quincy, becoming the first female owner/operator in the United States. She and her husband also owned and operated the Hoener Glass Company until 1977. Known affectionately as "Lisa", Elizabeth owned and operated Lisa's School of Charm and Modeling until her retirement. Throughout the years she taught modeling and etiquette to the "Young and young at heart," to hundreds from around the Tri-states. For many years, Elizabeth held the franchise for the Miss Teenage America Pageant for Illinois, Missouri, and Iowa. The winners of the local pageants and Lisa attended the National Competition in Ft. Worth, TX. Lisa was also involved in county fair pageants in Illinois and Missouri. Lisa loved fashion and was affiliated with State Street Store holding many fashion shows in the Quincy area. She traveled to New York yearly to attend the World Modeling Association Run-offs which she held a seat on the Board of Directors. Throughout the years, Elizabeth was a member of many organizations, including but not limited to: St. Peter's Altar Society, Women's City Club, Altrusa, Order of the Eastern Star, Blessing Hospital Ladies Auxiliary, Quincy Community Little Theatre, Society of Fine Arts, Quincy Country Club, Daughters of the American Revolution, and the World Modeling Association. She enjoyed bridge, golf, and collecting hats. Elizabeth was born a Texan and stayed true to her Texas heritage all through her life. Her great-great grandfather Col. F. Marcus Weatherred, died at the Alamo and his picture hangs inside to this day. Survivors include her only child, a daughter, Carroll Hill of Camp Point, four grandchildren, John Robert Feld and his wife Patricia (Jansen) of Kansas City, KS., Dana Sue Sass and her husband Jon of Quincy, Donna Jean Jones of Irving, TX., and Kelly Anne Whan and her husband Merl of Camp Point; 9 great grandchildren, Melissa Lea Feld of Kansas City, MO., John Patrick Feld, Jessica Lynn Feld, and Madeline Anne Feld of Kansas City, KS., Lauren Elizabeth Whan of Camp Point, Adam Joseph Sass and Elisabeth Arlene Sass of Quincy, Jon Jason Sass and his wife Sara of Des Moines, IA., and Amy Leanne Mayberry and her husband William of Springfield, IL.; four great-great grandchildren, Gretchen and Sophia Sass of DesMoine, IA., and Mikayla and Morgan Mayberry of Springfield, IL.; and a sister in law, Frances Weatherred of Kansas City, MO. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a grandson, James Ira Feld; her siblings, Catherine "Katie" Sinclair, Marie, Carl, Patrick, Walter, and Thomas Weatherred. Also: Ira Henry Schroeder and Vernon Ellis Toliver. Funeral services will be held Friday morning at 8:30 in Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home and at 9:00 in St. Peter's Catholic Church by Rev. Roy Bauer. Burial will be in Quincy Memorial Park. Visitation will be held Thursday evening from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. and Friday morning until the time of services at the funeral home.
