FRED D. HOLLIS
 

Mr. Fred D Hollis, 90, formerly of 635 North 16th, died at 3:05 a.m. Thursday (September 12, 2002) in Blessing Hospital.

Born July 13, 1912 in Macon, Missouri, Mr. Hollis was the son of Roy G. and Bessie May Toalson. He married Vera C. Smith on November 23, 1929. She survives.

Mr. Hollis was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church, Emmette J. Shields American Legion Post #55 of Hannibal, where he was one of the oldest members, and the Western Catholic Union. He served his country in the U. S. Navy during WW II and studied Electronics at Iowa State University while in the Navy.

Mr. Hollis was the manager of the Klump Oil Stations in Hannibal and West Quincy before starting his own business in 1951, the Ship Shape Laundry and Shamrock Baby Service in Quincy and Keokuk. He retired in 1977.


Also surviving are three daughters, Gloria Broun of St. Louis, MO., Lera Mosley and her husband Robert of Hannibal, MO. and Pamela Schwada and her husband Fred of Geneseo, IL.; eleven grandchildren; twenty great grandchildren; and one great great grandson; two brothers, Harvey Hollis and his wife Joyce of St. Louis, MO. and Roy Hollis Jr. and his wife Ruby of Sarasota, FL.; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Hollis was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Don Hollis; and a son in law, Dr. Goronwy Broun.

Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 9:30 in Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home and at 10:00 in St. Francis Catholic Church by the Rev. James Wheeler. Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery in Hannibal.

Visitation will be Friday evening from 5:00 to 8:00 and Saturday until the time of services at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Illinois Veterans Home.
