John Victor Juette, 60, of Maywood, Missouri, formerly of Quincy, died at 6:10 a.m. Tuesday (February 24, 2004) in Blessing Hospital. Born April 22, 1943 in Quincy, John was the son of Donald and Electa Curfman Juette. He married Linda Williams on November 9, 1963 in Quincy. She survives. John was a 1961 graduate of Quincy High School and received his Associate Degree in Fire Service from John Wood Community College, where he later was an instructor in fire fighting. John was a member of the Elks Lodge No. 100, Association of Fire Fighters of Illinois and the International Association of Fire Fighters Local Union 63. He enjoyed many hobbies, including, photography, trap shooting, and hunting and fishing. John loved helping people and making them laugh, especially at the 18 Wheeler Coffee Club in Taylor, Missouri. Known as "Johny J.", he raced at Quincy Raceways in the early 1980's and was a Track Champion. John also showed horses and in 1989 had a World Champion Foxtrotter. He was a life member of the Missouri Foxtrot Horse Breed Association. He was inducted into their Hall of Fame in 2003 and also received their Humanitarian Award. He was employed as a machinist for Gardner Denver for 10 years. From 1976 to 1986 he and his wife owned and operated Whiskey Downs at 17th & Spring. John served with the Quincy Fire Department for over 23 years, in charge of training and the head of the Protective Clothing Unit. He was also instrumental in helping the city acquire the Aerial Ladder Fire Truck. He retired as a Lieutenant from Fire Station No.6 in 1995. Survivors include his wife, Linda; his father and step mother, Donald and Maureen Quinn Juette of Lakeland, FL.; a daughter, Kelle Bunch and her husband Jeff of Quincy; three grandchildren, Matthew John Bunch, Kayla Marie Bunch and Zachery William Bunch all of Quincy; a brother, Dennis Juette and his companion Sally Brown of San Antonio, TX.; three sisters, Pat Waelder and her husband Kenny of Hannibal, MO., Donna Wooten and her husband Richard of Lakeworth, FL. and Nancy Gervais and her husband Victor of Ottawa, IL.; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Juette was preceded in death by his mother, Electa Juette. Graveside services will be held Friday afternoon at 1:30 in Greenmount Cemetery by Brother Ed Arambasich Quincy Fire Department Chaplain. The family will receive friends Friday from 11:00 until 1:00 at the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home in Quincy. Memorials may be made to the Hope Lodge in St. Louis or the Quincy
