Mrs. Wilma K. Lanning, 85, of 301 North 8th, died at 2:05 a.m. Monday (July 14, 2003) in her home. Born August 4, 1917 in Mt. Sterling, Wilma was the daughter of Truman Garish and Lelia LaClaire Noel Kendrick. She was married to Raymond Smith and later to Archie Wells. They preceded her in death. She married Marion "Bud" Lanning on December 19, 1981 in Galesburg. He survives. Wilma was a member of Our Lord's Chapel Baptist Church in Galesburg and was baptized by Pastor Don Lundquist on July 16, 1977. While living in Quincy, Wilma attended Tabernacle Baptist Church. Wilma was employed as a cook in Mt. Sterling, Galesburg and Elgin, IL. for many years until her retirement. Also surviving is a son, Richard Lee Smith and his wife Donna of Galesburg; three grandchildren, Tracy Coulter and her husband Michael of Springfield, IL., Matthew D. Smith and his wife Yukari of Quincy and Mark Smith and his wife Kerri of Edwardsville; four great grandchildren, Lindsey Coulter of Springfield, IL., Erika Smith of Quincy and Amber Smith and Jared Smith both of Edwardsville; a son in law, Donald Smith of Quincy; three brothers, Joe Kendrick of Mendon, Don Kendrick and his wife Marie of Golconda, IL. and Bob Kendrick and his wife Barb of Coatsburg; a sister, Zelma Ashby and her husband Raymond of Abingdon; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Lanning was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Patsy D. Smith; a brother, Noel Kendrick; a sister, Freda Cantrell; and a sister in law, Mary Ann Kendrick. Graveside services will be held Friday morning at 10:00 in Greenmount Cemetery by Pastor Jeff Feil. Visitation will be Thursday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 at the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Lung Association for Asthma Research. |
