Mrs. Rita M. Maggart, 67, of 1305 North 3rd, died at 2:05 p.m. Wednesday (April 14, 2004) in Blessing Hospital. Born December 10, 1936 in Quincy, Rita was the daughter of David and Una I. Darnell Houghton. She married Billie K. Maggart Sr. on October 9, 1954 in Quincy. He died on April 5, 1990. Rita loved to spend time with her children and grandchildren and enjoyed camping, fishing, rides in the country, playing bingo and going to casinos. In earlier years, Rita worked at the Illinois Veterans Home as a certified Nurses Aid until she retired due to a disability. Survivors include three sons, Billie Maggart Jr. and his wife Peggy, Donald Maggart Sr. and David "Pete" Maggart Sr. all of Quincy; two daughters, Sue Butler and her husband Bruce Sr. and Theresa Brewer and her husband Troy both of Quincy; 15 grandchildren, Billy, Matthew, Melissa, Donald Jr., Emily, Michael, David Jr., Keith and Tara Maggart, Stacy Butler, Bruce "B. J." Butler Jr., Dusti and Brady Brewer and Stephanie McKinney and her husband Justin all of Quincy and Amanda Wiemelt and her husband Tim of Chicago; a step grandson, Troy Brewer of Quincy; eight great grandchildren; a sister, Desolee Brown of Quincy; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Maggart was preceded in death by her parents; an infant daughter, Penny Kay; four brothers, Alvin, James, Delbert and Ova Houghton; a sister, Hester Root; and a brother and sister in infancy. Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 10 :00 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home by the Rev. George Tomko. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 and Saturday until the time of services at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Rita Maggart Memorial Fund. |
