ELMER MANGOLD
 

Mr. Elmer Mangold, 84, of 3105 College, died at 10:35 p.m. Sunday (November 3, 2002) in his home.

Born January 10, 1918 in Quincy, Elmer was the son of Charles E. and Selma Behrensmeyer Mangold. He married Anne M. Dorsey in 1946 in Quincy. She died in 1969. He married Gladys M. Leckbee on July 16, 1970 in Quincy. She died April 10, 1995.

Elmer was a member of Salem Evangelical United Church of Christ where he served as an usher and Undershepherd, Quincy V. F. W. Post #5129 where he served as Hospital Chairman for the State of Illinois, Quincy American Legion Post #37, Fraternal Order of Eagles #535. He also volunteered at the Illinois Veterans Home and Senior Citizens Center and he was a member of the Quarter Century Club at Gardner Denver. Elmer served his country in the U. S. Army during WW II, seeing action in the Aleutians and Ryukyus, receiving three Bronze Battle Stars.

Elmer was employed at Gardner Denver Co. from 1934 until his retirement in 1980.

Surviving is a daughter, Sharon Benefield and her husband Harry of Denison, TX.; three grandchildren, Kevin Brown and his wife Kathleen of Denison, TX., Christopher Brown and his wife Heather of Houston, TX. and Michelle Mangold of Quincy; six great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Mangold was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Michael David Mangold; a brother, Herbert L. Mangold; and a sister, Ruth Cain.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at 10:30 in Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home by the Rev. Stephen Schuette. Burial with military honors by Quincy American Legion Post #37 will be in Greenmount Cemetery.

Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. and Wednesday until the time of services at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Salem Church.
