Mrs. Dorothy Mae Maples, 75, of 2303 Mary Lane, formerly of 101 North 4th, died at 9:55 a.m. Sunday (March 4, 2001) in her home.

Born August 7, 1925 in Quincy, Dorothy was the daughter of Clarence and Ida Balzer Kistner. She married Thomas Maples on November 2, 1950 in Springfield, IL. He died on January 26, 1986.

Dorothy was a member of New Beginnings Evangelical Free Church and was a member of the Ladies Prayer Group.

Dorothy was employed as a waitress for many years in Quincy, working at Sprout's Inn, the Coach House Restaurant and the Town House Restaurant. She later worked in housekeeping at St. Mary Hospital, retiring in 1989.

Surviving is a daughter, Linda Hawkins and her husband Jim of Quincy; two grandchildren, Lori Hunter and Crystal Gramke both of Quincy; three great grandchildren, Jessica Hoerr of Auxvasse, MO., and Brooke Gramke and Blake Hunter both of Quincy; a sister, Beatrice Stormer of Quincy; and several nieces and nephews

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a step granddaughter, Nicole Hawkins; three brothers, Carl, Raymond and Robert Kistner; and a sister, Mary Zippe.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at 10:30 in Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home by the Rev. Thomas Henderson. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery.

Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. and Wednesday morning until the time of services at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Crystal Gramke Lung Transplant Fund or the Blessing Foundation for Hospice.
