Mr. Herschel Markword, 100, of Sunset Home, formerly of 1101 Washington died at 1:43 a.m. Tuesday (February 11, 2003) in Sunset Home.

Born October 26, 1902 in Ursa, Herschel was the son of Karl F. and Bessie Hughes Markword. He married Hazel F. Steel on January 27, 1923 in Quincy. She died July 14, 1994.

Mr. Markword was a member of the Bethel Assembly of God Church. In his younger years, he was active in church activities, including the sixty and over club, and he also enjoyed fishing.

Herschel was employed as a paper maker at Packaging Corporation of America for over 40 years retiring in 1967.

Surviving are three daughters, Phyllis Wiesemann and her husband Donald of Quincy, Donna Smith and her husband Sam of Canton, TX., and Naomi Hocker and her husband Austin of Houston, TX.; two sons, Bill Markword and his wife Lucille of Quincy, and H. Louis Markword and his wife Beverly of Benzonia, MI.; 14 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; and 28 great great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, one daughter; Ruth Kruckenberg; three grandsons, Jack Markword, Tom Wiesemann, and Greg Smith; two brothers, Albert and Robert Markword; and two sisters, Lydia Cramsey and Goldie Pittman.

Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at 2:00 in Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home by Rev. Barry Clair. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Monday afternoon from 12:30 until the time of services at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Sunset Home.
