Mrs. Bertha Mae Martin, 85, of Sunset Home, formerly of 1509 Spruce,
died at 10:40 a.m. Sunday (June 20, 2004) at the home.
Born May 1, 1919 in Quincy, Bertha was a daughter of John and Anna M.
Schuering Garner. She married William D. Martin. He died April 19, 1981.
Bertha enjoyed gardening, doing crafts and especially enjoyed all
children. She was an honorary member of the Washington School PTA.
Mrs. Martin was employed as a cook at Washington School for 33 years
retiring in 1989. She then worked as a RSVP at the Senior Citizen Center
for
10 years.
Surviving are three sons, Donald W. Martin and his wife Bethany and
Thomas P. Martin, all of Quincy, and James W. Martin and his wife Cathy
of
Springfield, IL.; twelve grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; three
sisters, Noma Jean Loos of Payson, Patsy Ann Jansen and Bonnie Dee Smith,
both of Quincy; and one brother, Howard L. Garner and his wife Beulah
of
Rock Island, IL.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers,
Lester and Harold Garner, and an infant brother, Virgil Garner; two sisters,
Helen Josh and Viola Ringering, and two infant sisters, Alice and Ruth
Garner.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 at the
Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home by Dr. Charles Baker. Burial
will be in Greenmount Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 4:00 until 7:00 and
Wednesday until the time of services at the funeral home.
