Mr. Harold I. McConnell, 83, of 918 S. 10th St., died at 12:20 p.m. Wednesday (July 2, 2003) in Blessing Hospital. Born August 20, 1919 in Gilmer Township, Adams County, Illinois, Harold was the son of John and Louella Grimmer McConnell. He married Rosalyn M. Lotz on March 17, 1945 in Quincy. She survives. Mr. McConnell was a member of Salem Evangelical United Church of Christ, a 50 year member of Bodley Lodge No. 1, Quincy Consistory, and was active with the Boy Scouts of America serving as the committee chairman for Troop 55. He also enjoyed traveling, camping and gardening. A 1937 graduate of Quincy High School, Mr. McConnell attended Western Illinois University before becoming a salesman for Adams County Shippers, the Walter Chatten Company and Eversman Manufacturing. He later was a mill operator at J. M. Huber for 18 years, retiring in 1984. Also surviving are two sons, Terry McConnell and David McConnell Jr. and his wife Virginia all of Quincy; five grandchildren, Trevor McConnell of Ft. Collins, CO., Briana McConnell of Elgin, IL., and Chance McConnell, Ryan McConnell and Tamara McConnell all of Quincy; and a step sister, Alice Timmer of Florida. Mr. McConnell was preceded in death by his parents; and a son, David McConnell Sr. Graveside services will be held Saturday morning at 10:00 in Greenmount Cemetery by the Rev. Wanda Seydel. Visitation will be held Friday evening from 3:00 to 6:00 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home. Bodley Lodge No. 1 will conduct Masonic Services Friday evening at 5:30 at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Shriner's Children's Hospital or Salem Church. |
