MELVA MEEHAN
 

Mrs. Melva Meehan, 69, of the North Adams Home, formerly of 1226 South 9th, died at 6:04 a.m. Saturday (March 29, 2003) in North Adams Home.

Born November 12, 1933 in Marcelline, Illinois, Melva was the daughter of Alva and Etta Marie Rowsey Miller. She married Richard W. Meehan on May 29, 1954 in New London, Missouri. He died on June 13, 2001.

Melva was a member of Salem Evangelical United Church of Christ where she served with the Undershepherds program. She was a member of the Quincy Business Women's Club, a Past Worthy Matron of Grace Whipple Chapter 312 Order of Eastern Star and a Past President of the Adams County Women's Democratic Club. She served as an Adams County Board Member for six years.

Melva was employed by Packaging Corp. for many years and later in the Dietary Department at the Illinois Veterans Home from 1983 until her retirement in 1996.

Surviving are two sons, Rick Meehan and his wife Becky of Quincy and Randy Meehan and his wife Nancy of Morton, IL.; four grandchildren, Aimee Meehan and Ryan Meehan both of Morton, and Brandon Meehan and Molly Meehan both of Quincy; three brothers, Alva Miller Jr. of Springfield, Charles Miller of Georgia and Theodore Miller and his wife Amy of Quincy; seven sisters, Joann Spindler, Barbara Arment and her husband William, Sarah Griffith and her husband William, Ruth Blackburn and her husband Harlan, and Jackie Beebe and her husband Larry all of Quincy, Mary White and her husband Carroll of Riverside, CA., and Sharon McKinney and her husband Larry of Newark, MO.; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Meehan was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a brother in infancy, Larry Dale Miller; and three sisters, Rose Marie Miller and Doris Arlene Miller both in infancy and Ferol Waller.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning at 10:30 in Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home by the Rev. Stephen Schuette. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery.

Visitation will be Monday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 and Tuesday until the time of services at the funeral home. Grace Whipple Chapter 312 O. E. S. will conduct services Monday at 5:00 in the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Salem Church or North Adams Home Alzheimer's Unit.
