RICHARD W. MEEHAN
Mr. Richard W. Meehan, 80, of 1226 South 9th, died at 1:20 p.m. Wednesday (June 13, 2001) in his home.

Born October 11, 1920 in Quincy, Mr. Meehan was the son of Edward J. and Willa Mortz Meehan. He married Melva Miller on May 29, 1954 in New London, Mo. She survives.

Mr. Meehan served his country in the U. S. Army during WW II seeing action in Northern France, The Rhineland and the Battle of the Bulge, where he received four Bronze Battle Stars and the Purple Heart. He served on the Adams County Board from 1975 until his retirement from the Board in 1995. While on the Board, he served on the original Committee for Restoration of the River Front and on the Highway Committee at the time the new highway building was built.

Mr. Meehan was employed at Packaging Corporation for 26 years until its closing. He later worked at Sheller-Globe for many years until his retirement.

Richard was a member of Salem Evangelical United Church of Christ, Quincy VFW Post 5126, Quincy American Legion Post #37, Triple Oaks Club, Rocky Point, and the Truman Club.

Also surviving are two sons, Rick Meehan and his wife Becky of Quincy and Randy Meehan and his wife Nancy of Morton, IL.; four grandchildren, Aimee Meehan and Ryan Meehan both of Morton, IL. and Brandon Meehan and Molly Meehan both of Quincy; a brother, Howard Meehan of Quincy; a sister in law, Elizabeth Meehan of Globe, AZ.; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Meehan was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Jim Meehan.

Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 10:30 in Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home by the Rev. Steve Disseler. Burial with Military Honors by Quincy American Legion Post #37 will be in Greenmount Cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. and Saturday until the time of services at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Blessing Foundation for Hospice.
