| Mr. William F. "Bill" Melching, 69, of Bradenton, Florida, formerly of Quincy, died at 2:10 p.m. Wednesday
(August 1, 2001) in his home. Born November 27, 1931 in Kansas City, Missouri, Mr. Melching was the son of Cherry M. and Geneva Havner Melching. The family moved to Quincy soon after. He married Kamilia AbdAllalim AlJamar in Liberia in 1981. She survives. Mr. Melching worked for Electric Wheel a division of Firestone Tire and Rubber as an engineer in Quincy. He transferred to Firestone's Decatur plant in August, 1968. In 1980, he was selected from several engineers to go to Firestone's rubber plantation in Harbel, Liberia, West Africa and worked there until his retirement in 1995. He returned to Springfield, IL. until he and his wife settled in Bradenton, FL. Also surviving are two daughters, Cynthia Davis and her husband James and Melody Clark and her husband Ron both of Quincy; two sons, William P. Melching and his companion, Edward Carroll, of Springfield, IL. and Gerald W. Melching and his wife Kris of Quincy; ten grandchildren; three great grandchildren; a brother, Gerald M. Melching and his wife Phyllis of Quincy; a sister, Sharon Cooley and her husband Herschel of Quincy; and three nephews. Mr. Melching was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be held Thursday morning at 11:00 in Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home by the Rev. Bruce Willard. Interment will be in Greenmount Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. and Thursday until the time of services at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Blessing Foundation for Hospice . |
