RICHARD K. MEWES SR.
 

Mr. Richard K. Mewes Sr., 64, of 1703 Stull, Quincy, died at 7:22 p.m. Tuesday (February 4, 2003) in Blessing Hospital.

Born June 4, 1938 in Quincy, Mr. Mewes was the son of Karl R. and Lillian Howser Mewes. He married Norma Mortensen December 21, 1957 in Sturgis, South Dakota. She survives.

Dick was an active member of Faith Christian Church where he was a former Sunday School teacher. He was also an avid bowler and golfer, being an original member of the Quincy Bowling Association and a member and two time Club Champion of Cedar Crest Country Club, and a member and Past Master of Herman Masonic Lodge No. 39 and Quincy Consistory. Mr. Mewes served his country in the U. S. Air Force.

A 1956 graduate of Quincy High School, Mr. Mewes was employed at St. Mary Hospital in Quincy and later in Health Care Management in Christopher, Mt. Sterling, and Danville, Illinois.

Also surviving are two sons, Rick Mewes Jr. and his wife Tammy of Ursa and Randy Mewes Sr. of Quincy; three daughters, Rhonda Church of Quincy, Ruth Ann Meadows and her husband Ernie of Christopher, IL. and Robin Eisenhauer and her husband Steve of DuQuoin, IL.; eight grandchildren, Stephanie, R. T. and Justin Mewes of Ursa, IL., Randy Scott Mewes Jr. of Marion, IL. and Elizabeth Mewes of Quincy, and Stacy, Sean and Samantha Meadows of Christopher, IL.; two step grandchildren, Shane Eisenhauer of St. Paul, VA. and Chad Eisenhauer of St. Albans, W. VA.; a great grandson, Garrett Morski of Christopher, IL. ; a step great granddaughter, Haley Eisenhauer of St. Paul. VA.; a brother, James Mewes of Quincy; a sister, Karen Szarka and her husband Terry of Quincy; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Mewes was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Sara Mewes; and two sisters, Judy Blackburn and Theresa Mewes.

Funeral services will be held Friday morning at 10:30 in Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home by the Rev. Henry Pratt. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery.

Visitation will be Thursday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 and Friday until the time of services at the funeral home. Herman Lodge No. 39 will conduct Masonic Services Thursday evening at 7:00 in the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Faith Christian Church or the charity of the donor's choice.
