Mrs. Lena L. Hanson Meyer, 97, of the Good Samaritan Home, died at 10:15 a.m. Monday (February 17, 2003) in Good Samaritan Home. Born July 4, 1905 in Elgin, Iowa, Lena was the daughter of Fred and Rose Grimm Frieden. She married Theodore D. Hanson on May 12, 1926. He died on April 2, 1956. She married Clemens Meyer on October 9, 1961 and they made their home in West Union, Iowa until Mr. Meyer's death in 1973. Lena was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and the Home Builders Sunday School Class. She was a volunteer for the American Red Cross and Good Samaritan Home. Lena was employed in the stock room office at Moorman Manufacturing Company for many years until her retirement in 1961. Surviving is a daughter, Janice Haydon and her husband Jack of O'Fallon, IL.; two grandchildren, Karen Christine Hammond and her husband Lionel of Palmyra, MO. and Roger Neal Haydon of Maryville, IL.; two great grandchildren, Shelby and Lane Hammond both of Palmyra, MO.; a brother, Robert Frieden of Lincoln, NB.; a sister, Dorothy Ellison of Canton, MO.; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Meyer was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; seven brothers, John, Ben, Albert, Leslie, Fred, Dan and Herman Frieden; and two sisters, Elizabeth Hoerr and Rose Hoerr. Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 in Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home by Rev. Franklin Silas. Burial will be in Quincy Memorial Park. Visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 and Wednesday until the time of services at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Grace United Methodist Church or the charity
of the donor's choice. |
