| Mr. Claire E. Nelson, 82, of Good Samaritan Home, formerly of 1317 S. 30th St. and Bowen, IL., died at 6:40 a.m.
Saturday (July 20, 2002) at Good Samaritan Home. Born November 21, 1919 in Keokuk IA., Claire was the son of Earl and Grace McNeall Nelson. He married Faye Northcott on October 26, 1945 in Hobbs, N.M. She died October 4, 1990. Mr. Nelson graduated from Bowen High School. He attended Carthage College and the University of Illinois. He was a member of the Bowen United Methodist Church. Claire was a Second Lieutenant in WWII serving as a pilot in the Air Force. Claire farmed in the Bowen area for many years until his retirement in 1985 when he and his wife moved to Quincy. Surviving are two daughters, Jan Nelson of Springfield, IL., and Judy Flesner and her husband Michael of Bowen; one son, Jeffrey Nelson and his wife Melissa of Kirksville, MO.; and five grandchildren, Kelsey Nelson of Springfield, IL., Trisha Flesner of St. Louis, MO., Brooke Flesner of Bloomingdale, IL., and Kyle and Kristopher Nelson, both of Kirksville, MO. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one granddaughter, Traci Flesner; and two brothers, Richard and Robert Nelson. Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 in the Bowen United Methodist Church by the Rev. Sandy Southard. Burial will be in Bowen Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday evening from 4:00 until 7:00 at Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home 1435 State, Quincy and Tuesday afternoon from 1:00 until the time of services at the church in Bowen. Memorials may be made to the Bowen United Methodist Church or Good Samaritan Home. |
