Mr. Dan C. Newton, 85, of the Good Samaritan Home, formerly of 2008
Cherry Lane Estates and 2324 Northridge, died at 8:15 a.m. Sunday (October
10, 2004) in Good Samaritan Home.

Born March 15, 1919 in Ina, Illinois, Dan was the son of Martin and
Laura Campbell Newton. He married Marilyn Stewart on November 14, 1943 in
St. Louis, Missouri. She died October 28, 2003.

Mr. Newton was a member of Salem Evangelical United Church of Christ
and the Couples Club and Men's Brotherhood. Dan was also a member of the
Uncle Sams Club, Lambert Masonic Lodge No. 659, Quincy Consistory, Ansar
Shrine Temple of Springfield, Quincy Shrine Club, and was a past patron of
Alpha Chapter 109 Order of Eastern Star, a past watchman of shepherds of
Miriam White Shrine of Jerusalem, a past monarch of Ghazzeh Grotto and a
past president of Quincy High Twelve Club.

Mr. Newton was employed for 33 years by the Goodyear Tire & Rubber
Company, working in Mt. Vernon and Evansville, Indiana before transferring
to Quincy in 1957. He retired in 1984.

Survivors include a daughter, Sharon Jewett and her husband Boyd of
Tucson, AZ.; a son, Gary W. Newton of Clallam Bay, WA.; a grandson, Kelly M.
Bowles and Ella James; and a great grandson, Rhys Emerson Bowles.

Mr. Newton was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a brother,
Claude Newton; and a sister Reba Babb.

Funeral services will be held Thursday evening at 7:00 in the Zehender
Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home by the Rev. Steve Disseler. At Mr.
Newton's request, cremation rites will be accorded following the funeral
services. Private inurnment will be in Greenmount Cemetery.

Visitation will be Thursday evening from 5:00 until the time of
services at the funeral home. Lambert Masonic Lodge No. 659 will conduct
services immediately before the funeral service.

Memorials may be made to the Shriner's Children's Hospital.
