Mrs. Marilyn E. Newton, 80, of 2008 Cherry Lane Estates, died at 1:47 p.m. Tuesday (October 28, 2003) in the emergency room of Blessing Hospital. Born December 17, 1922 in Butler, Pennsylvania, Marilyn was the daughter of Kenneth C. and Elizabeth Stratton Patterson Stewart. She married Dan C. Newton on November 14, 1943 in St. Louis, Missouri. He survives. Mrs. Newton was a member of Salem Evangelical United Church of Christ. She was a Past Worthy Matron of Alpha Chapter 109 Order of Eastern Star, Past High Priestess of Miriam White Shrine of Jerusalem, Past President of Daughters of the Nile, Past President of Quincy Business Women, and was a member of the Ghazzeh Grotto, Salem Church Couples Club and the Good Samaritan Home Auxiliary. Mrs. Newton was currently employed by Roy Bennett Furniture as a sales clerk, where she has worked for 30 years. Survivors include her husband , Dan; a daughter, Sharon Jewett and her husband Boyd of Bellingham, WA.; a son, Gary W. Newton of Clallam Bay, WA.; a grandson, Kelly Michael Bowles of Portland, OR.; two brothers, Kenneth C. Stewart Jr. of Madison, Ohio and William R. Stewart and his wife Bonnie of Gaithersburg, MD.; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Newton was preceded in death by her parents; her step mother, Grace L. Stewart; and a brother, Mark R. Stewart. Funeral services will be held Saturday evening at 7:00 at the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home by the Rev. Stephen Schuette. Cremation rites will be accorded to Mrs. Newton following the services. Visitation will be Saturday evening from 5:00 until the time of services at the funeral home. Alpha Chapter 109 O. E. S. will conduct services immediately preceding the funeral service. Memorials may be made to the Salem Church. |
