| Mr. William Jacob Nichols, 72, of 2201 Sycamore, died at 7:22 p.m. Monday (May 27, 2002) in Blessing Hospital. Born July 1, 1929 in Quincy, Bill was the son of William Joseph and Naomi Alma Peter Nichols. He was married to Georganna Turner. Bill was a member of First Christian Church, Quincy Lodge No. 296, Quincy American Legion Post #37, Golden K Kiwanis and Twin Oaks Club. He loved animals and the outdoors, spending time at his river camp. Bill also enjoyed having coffee with his friends in three different coffee clubs. Bill served his country in the U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He worked in home improvement and later as a salesman for Rod Smith Chevrolet and Sears before becoming a Security Guard at the Illinois Veterans Home for many years. He retired in 1994. Surviving are two sons, William Bates Nichols and Richard Stewart Nichols both of Quincy; a daughter, Shelly Marie Baur and her husband Wolfgang of Seattle, WA.; two sisters, Mary Naomi Weinand of Florissant, MO. and Sally Beth Sharpe and her husband Jim of Oshkosh, WI.; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Nichols was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Marcia Ann Grow; and a brother in law, Rodney J. Weinand. Funeral services will be held Friday morning at 10:00 in Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home by the Rev. Joby Brown. Burial with Military Honors by Quincy American Legion Post #37 will be in Woodland Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 and Friday until the time of services at the funeral home. Quincy Lodge No. 296 will conduct Masonic Services at 7:00 Thursday evening at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to First Christian Church, American Heart Association or the Shriner's Children's Hospital. |
