Mr. William "Bill" Platt Sr., 73, of the Sycamore Health Care Center, formerly of 313 Ohio, died at 6:50 a.m. Monday (December 17, 2001) in Blessing Hospital.

Born January 25, 1928 in Quincy, Bill was the son of Carl Hollensteiner and Rosella Platt. He was married to Jackie Wingerter in April, 1949 in Quincy.

Bill was a 1948 graduate of Quincy High School where he was a member of the football team. He was also a welterweight boxing champion in the Golden Gloves and later coached many young men in the art of boxing. Bill was an avid pool player and dancer and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He was employed at Packaging Corporation for many years until his retirement.

Surviving are four daughters, Susie Hampton and her husband Tod, Sherry Young and her husband Chet, and Debbie Bias all of Quincy and Lori Holler of Fowler; three sons, Joe Platt and his wife Patty and Jaime Platt all of Quincy and David Platt and his wife Holly of LaGrange, MO.; 16 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; and a brother, Robert Shafer of Quincy.

Mr. Platt was preceded in death by his parents; and a grandson, Jacob Platt.

Graveside services will be held Thursday morning at 9:00 in Quincy Memorial Park by the Rev. George Tomko.

Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 at Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the Sycamore Health Care Center Activity Department or the Salvation Army.
