| Mr. George Franklin Reed, 84, of the Illinois Veterans Home, formerly of 1431 South 24th, died at 6:25 p.m. Thursday
(April 11, 2002) in Blessing Hospital. Born May 22, 1917 in Quincy, George was the son of August A. and Emma Barth Reed. He married Bertha Siebers on April 7, 1951 in Alton, IL. She died on November 7, 1980. Mr. Reed was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, Quincy American Legion Post #37, V. F. W. Post #5129, Disabled American Veterans, and the National Rifle Association. He served his country in the U. S. Army during WW II in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre, receiving one Bronze Battle Star. Mr. Reed was employed in the maintenance department of the Quincy Post Office for 25 years, retiring in 1983. Surviving is a son, Michael Reed of Quincy; a daughter, Georgiann Cress and her husband David of Cape Coral, FL.; 4 grandchildren, Leisa M. Brower of Irving, TX., Laura M. Comer of Ft. Myers, FL., and Devin and Alex Reed of Quincy; a sister, Florence Rickert of Pekin; and a niece, Judy Underwood of Pekin. Mr. Reed was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and a sister, Viola Griffin. Funeral services will be held Monday morning at 9:30 in Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home and at 10:00 in St. Boniface Catholic Church by the Rev. John Carberry. Burial with Military Honors by Quincy American Legion Post #37 will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held Sunday evening from 4:00 until 7:00 and Monday morning until the time of services in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association. |
