| Mr. M. Dale Riutzel, 79, of 3006 Bluff Ridge Drive, died at 5:15 p.m. Friday (February 9, 2001) in the Illinois
Veterans Home. Born March 20, 1921 in Adams County, IL., Mr. Riutzel was the son of Clifford and Mary Gertrude Balsar Riutzel. He married Doris Jean Morey on June 8, 1947 in Taylor, MO. She survives. Dale was a member of Ellington Memorial Presbyterian Church, a 50 year member of the Elks Lodge #100 and a 56 year and Life Member of Lambert Masonic Lodge No. 659, Quincy Consistory, Ansar Shrine Temple of Springfield, Quincy Shrine Club and a Charter Member of the Shrine Club Skeeter Patrol, Quincy Lions Club where he was a Past President, Quincy Family YMCA and a longstanding member of the Illinois Police Associaton. Dale and Jean spent 17 winters in Clermont, Florida at Clerbrook Golf Resort where he was a member of the Men's Golf League. He was a member at Spring Lake Country Club and was an avid golfer, hunter, and sports fan and enjoyed boating, big band music, traveling and spending time with his grandchildren. Family members describe him as energetic, outgoing and a "Mr. Fix-it," willing to help a friend or stranger with a broken down car or other need at any hour or place. A 1939 graduate of Quincy High School, Mr. Riutzel was active in football and track. He attended San Diego State University before entering the U. S. Navy during WW II as Chief Petty Officer. Dale participated in 32 round trips on a troup transport out of New York City. He was instrumental in organizing the Naval Reserve Center in Quincy where he remained active for many years. Dale was employed for many years in the dry cleaning business with Riutzel Cleaners and White Star Cleaners and later was the sales manager of Quincy Truck Sales until his retirement in 1979. Also surviving is a daughter, Dayle Renee' Schlueter and her husband George "Bucky" of Quincy; a son, Marc Clifford Riutzel and his wife Ann of Quincy; eight grandchildren, Kara Schlueter, David Riutzel, Eric Riutzel and Alexa Riutzel and Kathy Brumbaugh and her husband Larry all of Quincy, Jim Schlueter and his wife Jan of St. Charles, MO., Tom Schlueter of Chicago, IL. and Kristin Smith and her husband John of Estes Park, CO.; seven great grandchildren, Jennifer, Michelle, Ryan and Tyler Brumbaugh, Jacob and Hailey Schlueter and Hunter Smith; two sisters, Dorothy Wilcox of Quincy and Irene Mosena of Northridge, CA.; four nieces, Cindy Wiltshire, Janet Hoffmann, Jan Peterson and Melanie Morey and a nephew, Todd Morey. Dale was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Marion Riutzel; and two brothers in law, Roy Wilcox and Melbourne Mosena. Memorial services will be held Monday evening at 7:00 in Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home by the Rev. Richard McFarlin. Lambert Lodge No. 659 will conduct Masonic Services immediately preceding the Memorial Services. Private inurnment with military honors will be in Sunset Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday evening from 5:00 until the time of services at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Shriner's Children's Hospital, Ellington Presbyterian Church or the Illinois Veterans Home Activity Fund. |
