ARLIE J. ROWSEY SR.
 

Mr. Arlie J. Rowsey Sr., 78, of Keokuk, IA., died at 8:01 a.m. Thursday (May 6, 2004) at Keokuk Area Hospital.

Born January 19, 1926 in Quincy, Arlie was the son Arlie and Ethel Davis Rowsey. He married Merle Mae Sapp on July 4, 1947 in Quincy. She died August 11, 1994.

Arlie was a man of varied interest. He was a member of AARP, NRA, and the Musicians Union. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and mushrooming. He also played guitar with the String Kings in the 1960's in Quincy and surrounding area. Arlie was active in democratic politics in Lee County and was well known for his letters to the editor in the Keokuk Daily Gate and the Ft. Madison Democrat and her also served his country in the Illinois Reserve Militia.

Arlie was employed at Brower Manufacturing for over 20 years and also served as the Union Recording Secretary. He then worked at the Amour-Dial Company in Ft. Madison for 13 years retiring in 1989.

Surviving are four daughters, Terri Baker and her husband Jimmie and Rebecca Morgan all of Quincy, Regina Gentry of Davenport, IA, and Mary Elizabeth Rowsey and her fiance' Mark Johnson of Kahoka, MO.; one son, Arlie J. Rowsey Jr.and his wife Pammy of Chattanooga, TN.; seven grandchildren, Jody Summers and her husband James and Arlie James Rowsey III all of Chattanooga, TN., Darren Baker and his wife Keva, Jennifer Baker, and Monica Baker all of Quincy, Christopher Gentry of Florida, and Kandi Lewis of Keokuk, IA; four great grandchildren; and one sister, Vivian Jansen of Monroe City, MO.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one son, Arthur "Joe" Rowsey; one grandson, Mike Elliot; and one great grandson, Cory Baker.

Graveside services will be held Monday morning at 10:00 at Greenmount Cemetery by Rev. George Tomko.

Visitation will be held Sunday evening from 4:00 until 7:00 at the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home in Quincy.
