Mrs. Dorothy M. Ryan, 71, of 1521 Hamann Lane, died at 1:05 a.m. Thursday (April 8, 2004) in Blessing Hospital. Born June 8, 1932 in Quincy, Dorothy was the daughter of Kenneth H. and Lucille L. Douglass Power. She married Donald M. Ryan on October 20, 1951 in Quincy. He survives. Dorothy was a member of Faith Christian Church, Quincy Christian Women, Elks Lodge #100 Auxiliary where she served as secretary for several years and was a charter member and Past President of the Illinois Society for Directors of Volunteer Services, receiving the Professional Achievement Award and was named Director of the Year in 1982. In 1984, Dorothy was honored by the Geneseo Business and Professional Women's Club with the Woman of the Year Award. A 1950 graduate of Quincy High School, Dorothy served as Director of Public Relations and Volunteer Services at Hammond-Henry Hospital in Geneseo for 20 years. She retired in 1991. Survivors include her husband, Donald; a son, David M. Ryan of Quincy; a daughter, Donna S. Ryan of Quincy; two sisters in law, Mardelle Miles and her husband Oscar of Libertyville, IL. and Mary Lammers and her husband Paul of Quincy; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mrs. Ryan was preceded in death by her parents. Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning at 10:30 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home by the Rev. Henry Pratt. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 and Tuesday until the time of services at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Cancer Center of Hannibal Regional Hospital, the Blessing Cancer Center or Faith Christian Church. |
