LOWELL E. SANBORN
Mr. Lowell E. Sanborn, 84, of Good Samaritan Home formerly of 4401 Cedar Ridge Drive, died at 12:50 p.m. Saturday (September 1, 2001) in Good Samaritan Home.

Born November 2, 1916 in Groveland. Ma., he was a son of Arnold P. and Ella N. Merritt Sanborn. He was married April 1, 1976 to Helen R. Haskins in Santa Anna, Ca. She survives.

Lowell was an active member of the First Christian Church where he was the chairman of the Board of Trustees, a member of the Carley Class and a Bible Study Leader. He was a 1935 graduate of Haverhill, Ma. High School and a 1949 graduate of Providence, R. I. Bible Institute. He received his BA Degree in Sociology from the University of New Hamphire and his Masters of Education in Counseling and Guidance and Psychological Services from Springfield College in Springfield, Ma. in 1965.

Lowell was a member of the Quincy District Association of the Blind, Illinois Council of the Blind, American Council of the Blind, National Association of Blind Teachers and the Braille Revival League. He was also a member of the Quincy Noon Lions, and AARP Chapter 326 of Quincy. He was a former member of the Great River Barbershop Chorus, Full Gospel Business Men's Fellowship International, the National Rehabilitation Association of America and the Association Workers of the Blind.

Lowell was employed as a Case Worker for the Department of Welfare in the State of New Hampshire and as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor for the State of Illinois in Quincy from 1966 until his retirement in 1983.

Surviving is one step-son , H. Gregory Metzger and his wife Jackie of Decatur, Illinois; one step-daughter Patricia Reed and her husband Dan of Quincy; 8 step-grandchildren Susan O'Connor and her husband Matt of Springfield, Illinois, Rebecca Reed of Laguna Hills, Ca., Robert Reed and his wife Angela of Prairie Village, Kansas, Scott Reed of St. Louis, Missouri, Patrick Reed and his wife Becky of O'Fallon, Missouri, Eric Metzger of Racine, Wisconsin, Justin and Jordan Metzger both of Decatur, Illinois; a nephew Stephen Sanborn and his wife Joyce of Newburyport, Ma.; two nieces Cheryl Sanborn and Laurel Stasiuk and her husband Walter both of New York, NY and several great nieces.

He was preceded in death by one brother Allen Sanborn.

Funeral Services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. at the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home by the Rev. George Sublett and Rev. B. L. Brown. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery.

Visitation will be Monday evening from 5-7 p.m. and Tuesday until the time of services.

Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church Building Fund or to the Quincy District Association of the Blind.
