Mrs. Carlene Ursula Schmeing, 86, of 309 Lind, formerly of the Good Shepherd Apartments, died at 4:50 a.m. Wednesday (January 29, 2003) in her home.

Born January 13, 1917 in Quincy, Mrs. Schmeing was the daughter of Theodore and Carrie Weber Froeschner. She married Bernard B. Schmeing on September 6, 1965 in St. Michael's Church in Michael, Illinois. He died December 16, 1974.

Mrs. Schmeing was a graduate of St. Rose of Lima Grade School, Quincy High School and Gem City Business College. She was a 30 year member of the St. Rose Choir, a member of the Promoters of the Sacred Heart and was active for many years in the Literacy Volunteer Program. She attended the Holy Family Chapel in the Good Sheperd Apartments where she was a Eucharistic Minister and Lector.

Mrs. Schmeing was employed as the Assistant Corporate Secretary at Moller & VandenBoom Lumber Company, retiring in 1986 after 50 years of service.

Surviving is a niece, Mary Lou Spilker and her husband Dan of Quincy; three great nephews, Robert Spilker and his fiance' Lori Holler of Quincy, Theodore Spilker and his wife Dawnell with the U.S. Marine Corp stationed in Buford, S. C. and John Spilker and his wife Megan of Sedalia, MO.; and a great niece, Amanda Spilker and her fiance' Kris Horton of Quincy.

Mrs. Schmeing was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and a brother, Louis L. Froeschner.

Cremation rites were accorded to Mrs. Schmeing. A Memorial Mass will be held Friday morning at 11:00 in St. Boniface Catholic Church.

There will be no visitation, but friends are invited to the services.

Memorials may be made to the Blessing Foundation for Hospice or the Holy Family Chapel at Good Shepherd Apartments in care of Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home, 1435 State St. Quincy, IL. 62301.
