GWENDOLYN S. SCHMIEDESKAMP
 

Mrs. Gwendolyn S. Schmiedeskamp, 87, of 1409 North 20th and Sunset Home, died at 11:15 p.m. Sunday in Bellevue, Washington.

Born November 10, 1915 in Postville, Iowa, Mrs. Schmiedeskamp was the daughter of Rev. Karl William and Cornelia Mueller Braun. She married Harold Schmiedeskamp on September 15, 1979 in Golden. He died August 30, 1998.

A graduate of Golden High School and Carthage College with a Degree in Music and Science, she also attended the University of Illinois for one year. Mrs. Schmiedeskamp taught Elementary Education, Music and English for 32 years for schools in Nebraska, Iowa and Illinois. She retired in 1978 from the Quincy Public Schools, teaching the last 11 years in Monroe School.

Mrs. Schmiedeskamp was a member of Christ Lutheran Church where she played the organ and piano, a member of the Retired Teacher's Club, Illinois Education Association, and the National Education Association. She served as Chaplain of the Republican Women and was an Honorary Member of the Quincy Area Travel Club. Gwendolyn and Harold also served many years as volunteers at Blessing Hospital.

Surviving is a daughter, Janet Hoeft and her husband Werner of Issaquah, WA.; a step daughter, Ann Donhardt of Quincy; two grandchildren, Kristen Hoeft of Santa Barbara, CA. and Jennifer Maple and her husband Travis of Ursa; a great grandson, Connor Maple of Ursa; a brother, Warren Braun and his wife Lillian "Dickie" of Harrisonburg, VA.; a sister, Jeanette Futhey of Golden; a brother in law, Donald Schmiedeskamp and his wife Arlene of Quincy; a sister in law, Carol Braun of Austin, TX.; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Schmiedeskamp was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two infant sons, Harold and Norman Hieronymus; and a brother, Carlton Braun.

Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 11:00 in Christ Lutheran Church by the Rev. Paul Schwartzkopf. Burial will be in Ellington Home Cemetery in Quincy.

Visitation will be Saturday morning from 10:00 until the time of services at Christ Lutheran Church.

Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Memorials may be made to Christ Lutheran Church or the Shriner's Children's Hospital.
