| Mr. Maurice E. "Sarge" Shade, 81 of 1801 Center Granview, died at 12:10 a.m. Monday (March 4, 2002) in
the emergency room of Blessing Hospital. Born March 26, 1920 in Quincy, Maurice was the son of Guy L. and Marguerite Hedrick Shade. He married Norma E. Grussemeyer on April 4, 1942 in St. Peters Church in Quincy. She died May 7, 1996. Mr. Shade was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, V. F. W. Post 5129 and South Side Boat Club. He was a 1938 graduate of Quincy High School and was an avid reader. Following graduation, Mr. Shade joined the Illinois National Guard before entering the U. S. Army 130th Infantry Division on December 14, 1940. He served more than 20 years and saw action in WW II and Korea. He later was employed for 20 years for the Illinois Job Service and was the morning voice of the Illinois Job Service Radio Report. He retired in February, 1984. Surviving are two sons, Steven Shade of Quincy and John Shade of TX.; three daughters, Becky Reddie and her husband Dave and Cynthia Shade both of Quincy and Meg Rogers and her husband Ron of Springfield, IL.; two grandchildren, Amy Barnes of Springfield and Jason Blentlinger of Quincy. Mr. Shade was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a son, Michael Lee Shade; a daughter, Patricia Shade; a brother, Earl Shade; and a sister, Madelyn Wade. Funeral services will be held Thursday morning at 10:00 in Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home by Rev. Michael Kuse. Burial with Military Honors by Payson V. F. W. Post #2061 will be in Greenmount Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 and Thursday until the time of services at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to St. Mary Catholic Church, American Cancer Society or the American Diabetes Association. |
