| Miss Helen Anne Simon, 98, of the Good Samaritan Home, formerly of 622 South 13th, died at 6:25 a.m Thursday (October
18, 2001) in Good Samaritan Home Born October 13, 1903 in Quincy, Helen was the daughter of John F. and Emma S. Niekamp Simon. Helen was a member of Salem Evangelical United Church of Christ where she was active with the Women's Guild, the church choir and taught Sunday School. She was also a member of the Good Samaritan Home Auxiliary, Illinois Retired Teachers, Adams County Retired Teachers, and a former member of the Y.W.C.A., Women's City Club, American Association of University Women, and Delta Kappa Gamma. Helen attended Emerson Elementary School and was a graduate of Quincy High School and Western Illinois University. She taught third grade at Emerson Elementary School for 44 years, retiring in 1965. Surviving are two nephews, John W. "Jack" Simon and his wife Shirley of Quincy and Lloyd Smith of Aurora, CO.; a niece, Mary Simon of Denver, CO.; two great nephews, Rodney W. Simon of Geneva, IL. and Bradney W. Simon and his wife Debbie of Spartanburg, South Carolina; a great niece, Kathy Sue List and her husband Lloyd of Mason City, IL.; and 16 great great nieces and nephews, John W. Simon II and his wife Cara, Joseph Simon, Joshua Simon, Matthew Simon and his wife Pamela, Andrew Simon, Julie List, Nicole List, Nathan List, Jason List, Eric Simon, Roger Simon and his wife Jeanette, Barry Simon, Richard Smith and his wife Andrea, Maribeth Clark and her husband Steven, Ebbie Ann Sanakey and her husband David, and Linda Miles and her husband Steven. Helen was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers and sisters in law, Walter and Clara Simon and Clarence and Mildred Simon; a sister, Mabel Simon; a nephew, Walter Simon Jr.; a niece, Mabel Louise Smith; and a great nephew, Garrett Simon. Funeral services will be held Monday morning 10:30 in Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home by the Rev. Wanda Seydel and Rev. Steve Disseler. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. and Monday until the time of services at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Salem Church or Good Samaritan Home. |
