Dr. David K. Terwische

Dr. David Terwische passed away peacefully Tuesday, June 24, 2003 in the Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane, Washington.

Born November 30, 1943, in Quincy, David was the son on Kenneth T. and Virginia M. Dickwish Terwische.

A 1961 graduate of Quincy High School, David received his BA in Speech and Drama from Culver-Stockton College in 1965, his MA in 1967 and his Ph.D in Radio-TV-Film from the University of Missouri.

His passion for the entertainment media began at an early age with work in both radio and television. He built a career out of sharing that passion with new generations, starting as an Assistant Professor at Southern Illinois University and later at the University of Arizona. He also worked in the industry at CBS Television and at McGuire and Nichols. He began teaching at Eastern Washington University in 1984.

At EWU, David served as Director of the Radio-Television Production Center, Chair of the Department of Electronic Media, Theatre and Film, and General manager of KEWU-FM, along with his teaching duties. His great ability to inspire students to learn and excel in their craft was exceeded only by the interest and care he gave to them. David’s love of the media arts (particularly radio) came through in his accomplishments as a writer, director, producer and host of many radio and television programs and specials throughout his career. His real accomplishments include the number of students who went on to become successful in the industry and the number of friends and colleagues who were touched and inspired by his wit, charm and smiling demeanor.

David is survived by an aunt, Janet Terwische of Quincy; several cousins; and by his family of friends, students and colleagues whom he loved and who loved him.

David will be laid to rest next to his parents on Thursday afternoon at 2:00 in Greenmount Cemetery. Rev. Tim White will conduct the services.

A visitation for family and friends will be held Thursday afternoon from 1:00 until 1:45 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice or the EWU Foundation in the name of Dr. David Terwische. A scholarship is planned in his memory to further the arts that he loved.

A delightful and cherished friend, colleague administrator and teacher, he will be missed.
