KENNETH T. THOMPSON
Mr. Kenneth T. Thompson, 77, of 731 South 10th, died at 12:15 a.m. Saturday (July 28, 2001) in his home.

Born January 25, 1924 in Marytown, West Virginia, Mr. Thompson was the son of J. W. and Mary Martha Thompson. He married Betty Guffey on October 1, 1949 in Avena, IL. He later married Virginia P. Chase on April 14, 1969 in Chicago Heights, IL. He is survived by his ex-wife and his wife.

Mr. Thompson served in the U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict, receiving a Bronze Battle Star. He was a former member of the V. F. W. in Chicago Heights and enjoyed fishing.

Mr. Thompson worked in coal mines in West Virginia before working as a machine operator for Calumet Steel. He retired in 1981.

Also surviving is a daughter, Evelyn Garrett and her husband Lynn of Quincy; six sons, Kenneth Frank Thompson of Steger, IL., James Thompson and his wife Sherri of Brownstown, IL., Frank Fries of Duluth, MN., Alan Fries and his wife Rosemary of Slidell, LA., Tommy Maahs and his wife Lyn of Sycamore, IL. and Rev. Daniel Maahs and his wife Hilda of Corpus Christi, TX.; 16 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Thompson was preceded in death by his parents; a step daughter, Catherine Maahs; a grandson, Joey Thompson; two sisters, Leota Yon and Theda Thompson; and a daughter in law, Sue Thompson.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 1:00 in Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home by the Rev. Timothy White. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery.

Visitation will be Monday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. and Tuesday until the time of services at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Illinois Veterans Home Activity Fund.
