Mrs. Virginia P. Thompson, 76, of 3611 Greenfield Road, formerly of 731 South 10th, died at 3:31 p.m. Friday (April 11, 2003) in the home of her daughter in Quincy. Born March 15, 1927 in Providence, Rhode Island, Virginia was the daughter of Bernal and Sarah Jackson Brown Chase. She married Daniel R. Maahs in 1949 in Chicago. He died November 26, 1968. She married Kenneth Thompson on April 14, 1969 in Chicago. He died July 28, 2001. Mrs. Thompson was active in Adult Day Care at the Senior Citizens Center. In her younger days, she enjoyed ice skating and playing cards. Mrs. Thompson was the housekeeping supervisor for the Thrall Car Manufacturing Company in Chicago Heights for over 15 years, retiring in 1981. After moving to Quincy, she was employed as a caregiver for over 13 years, retiring in 1999. Surviving is a daughter, Evelyn Garrett and her husband Lynn of Quincy; six sons, Tommy Maahs and his wife Lyn of Sycamore, IL., Rev. Daniel Maahs and his wife Hilda of Corpus Christi, TX., Frank Fries of Duluth, MN., Alan Fries and his wife Rosemary of Slidell, LA., Kenneth Frank Thompson of Steger, IL. and James Thompson and his wife Sherri of Brownstown, IL.; sixteen grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; four brothers, Bernal Chase of Roseville, MI., George Chase of Long Beach, CA. Bill Chase and his wife Stacie of Peoria, IL. and James Leeson and his wife Sandra of Duluth, MN.; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Thompson was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; a daughter, Catherine Maahs; a brother, Clifton Chase; and a twin sister, Ella Weiskner. Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at 10:30 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home by the Rev. Timothy White. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 and Wednesday until the time of services at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Blessing Foundation for Hospice. |
