Mrs. Blanche Thoreson, 88 of the Good Samaritan Home, formerly of Cherry Lane Estates and the Augusta, IL. community, died at 5:46 p.m. Sunday (March 10, 2002) in Blessing Hospital.

Born December 15, 1913 in Huntsville, IL., Blanche was the daughter of William and Emily Williams Edwards. She married Carl E. Thoreson on June 12, 1940 in Palmyra, MO. He survives.

Blanche was a member of the United Methodist Church of Augusta and attended Melrose Chapel United Methodist Church in Quincy. She was a graduate of Mt. Sterling High School and was the Valedictorian of her class. She was also a member of the Home Bureau and a 50 year member of the Augusta Order of Eastern Star. Blanche loved to raise flowers and enjoyed traveling throughout the United States with her husband.

Blanche worked as a Beauty Operator and later was employed at the Augusta Telephone Company as a bookkeeper for many years.

Also surviving are ten nieces, Clarine Edwards of Henry, IL., Mary Hayes and her husband Ed of Henry, IL., Lois Hecox of Winterhaven, FL., Ann Deeds of Quincy, Phyllis Shields and her husband Sam of Colchester, Catherine Pahutski of Quakertown, PA., Sandra Hershberger and her husband David of Nevada City, CA., Susan Digangi and her husband Joe of Pensacola, FL., Maureen Fernandez and her husband Ralph of Sarasota, FL., and Leanna Burroughs of Bettendorf, IA.; three nephews, Robert "Bob" Thoreson and his wife Shirley of Colfax, IA., Gerald Thoreson of Wisconsin and Garwood Thoreson II of Quincy; and two sisters in law, Hollis Edwards of Henry, IL. and Mary Thoreson of Quincy.

Blanche was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Cletus Edwards.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at 10:30 in Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home by the Rev. Len Williamson. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Augusta.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 9:30 until the time of services at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Good Samaritan Home or the Woodlawn Cemetery Association.
