Mr. Roy O. Uppinghouse, 71, of Payson, died at 9:25 p.m. Monday (April 14, 2003) in St. John's Hospital in Springfield. Born October 1, 1931 in Payson, Illinois, Roy was the son of Merle and Lily Seiz Uppinghouse. He married Billie Mae Platt on December 15, 1951 in Payson. She survives. Roy was a member of the Payson United Methodist Church. He enjoyed collecting John Deere Tractors and Nascar collectibles. Roy raced super modified cars for 25 years in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa and Missouri, winning numerous track and season championships. He is the leading money winner at the Pittsfield Speedway. Roy was employed as a truck driver for many years, retiring from Gem City Transfer in 1980. Also surviving are three sons, Rodney Uppinghouse and his wife Kathy of Burton, Tim Uppinghouse and his wife Nancy of Adams and Jeff Uppinghouse and his wife Judy of Quincy; two daughters, Cindy Bock and her husband Bob of Mountain Grove, MO. and Peggy Uppinghouse of New London, MO.; eleven grandchildren; four great grandchildren; two brothers, Bluford "Doc" Uppinghouse and his wife Nadine of Payson and Donald Uppinghouse and his wife Pauline of Plainville; four sisters, Dorothy Baugher and Freda Campbell and her husband Kenneth all of Payson, Alice Allensworth of Quincy and Shelby Shanks and her husband Leo of Plainville; a sister in law, June Uppinghouse of Payson; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Uppinghouse was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Delbert "Red" Uppinghouse and Lester Uppinghouse. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 1:30 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home in Payson by the Rev. Ron Cox. Burial will be in the Payson New Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 12:00 Noon until the time of services at the funeral home in Payson. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association. |
