| Mrs. Frances Wavrek, 87, of Good Samaritan Home, died at 2:00 p.m. Sunday (March 31, 2002) in the home. Born January 11, 1915 in Hood River, OR., Frances was the daughter of Herman and Emma Lierle Fengel. She married Gilbert "Gib" Wavrek on October 10, 1941 in Quincy. He died May 6, 1968. Frances was a 1938 graduate of Blessing School of Nursing and trained at Hillcrest Sanitarium in Quincy and the Cook County Hospital in Chicago. She was a 17 year volunteer with the American Red Cross, working at many of the blood drives and a volunteer at Good Samaritan Home. She also served as President of the Good Samaritan Home Auxiliary. Frances was a registered nurse at Blessing Hospital and was employed from 1968 until 1979 at the Illinois Veterans Home. She was featured in the Ladies Home Journal for her career in nursing and honored in the Book of Healers, a publication which is a tribute to nurses worldwide. Frances was also honored in Nurses Week, the largest newspaper and career guide for nurses. Surviving is her brother, Harvey Fengel and his wife Irma of Quincy; five nieces, Janet Oberling and her husband Bob of Quincy, Joyce Marshaus and her husband Larry of Mattoon, IL., Judy Bjurstrom and her husband Ron of Wonderlake, IL., Trudy Johnson and her husband Mark of Quincy and Joy Hamovitz and her husband Mike of Lawton, OK.; two great nieces, Nikki Sparrow of Quincy and Wendy Wear of CA., and two cousins, Lloyd Fengel of Payson, and Dorothy Kramer of Lawton, OK. Frances was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Marvin Virgil Fengel; and a great nephew, Chad Wear. Funeral services will be held Thursday morning at 10:30 in Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home by the Rev. Jobey Brown. Burial will be in Quincy Memorial Park. Visitation will be Thursday morning from 9:00 until the time of services at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church Building Fund. |
